Kevin Day (Opening a bottle): As to the Beaujolais comparison, while I agree that Schiava is more similar to Pelaverga and esp to some of Valle d’Aosta’s reds, I think many of my readers do not have a context for that since they are rare on our shelves in America. We also have the problem over here of heavy, alcoholic Pinot Noir being the norm from California, so even making that comparison can be tricky.
